Alaska Climate Alliance Coalition Coordinator - Contractor Scope of Work 

Contractor Title: Alaska Climate Alliance Coalition Coordinator

Expected contractual hours: approximately 20 hours/per week

Compensation: $30-$50 per/hour

Reports to: AK Climate Alliance (ACA) Coordinating Team

Location: Work can be performed from anywhere in Alaska, with some occasional in-person meetings and retreats required annually. There may be an opportunity to work in-person at the office space of an ACA partner organization in Anchorage, Juneau or Fairbanks.

This is an 8-month contract beginning in September 2024, with an option to renew the contract if funding allows.

Organization Overview: 

The Alaska Climate Alliance is a coalition of organizations that are working to align Alaska’s climate action community with Just Transition principles to address the climate crisis head-on at all levels of society, shifting our state towards a joyful, interdependent and Indigenous-led future. Over 80 organizations have participated in the Coalition since its formation in 2020. Currently Fairbanks Climate Action Coalition, Native Movement, The Alaska Center, Pacific Environment, Southeast Alaska Conservation Council and Alaska Sierra Club staff sit on the Coordinating Team for the Coalition.

Contract Overview:
We are seeking a committed and passionate coordinator to contract with the Alaska Climate Alliance. Scope of work will include navigation and facilitation of a strategic planning process, support of internal processes for our Indigenous Navigation Council and Coordinating Team, help to build our base through retention and recruitment of organizations to join the ACA, monthly facilitation and meeting planning tasks, and assistance with fundraising. The Coordinator will help ensure ACA structural bodies (Coordinating Team, Indigenous Navigation Council, and member organization) have smooth communication and be the primary point of contact/facilitator of the coalition and coalition spaces. The ideal candidate must be highly organized and effective at working in group settings. Preferably the candidate will have proven experience in community organizing, coalition building, and project management. This position will work closely with a supportive, passionate, and dynamic team of both staff and volunteer members from all of the ACA partner organizations. This is a contract position with the potential to grow into a permanent position.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Coordinating Team and Indigenous Navigation Council to support coordination, facilitation, and strategic direction to accomplish long-term goals of the ACA.
  • Lead communications and information sharing throughout the ACA, including writing newsletters, blog posts, website updates, social media, reports, and other public-facing outreach.
  • Collaboratively facilitate monthly member gatherings for individuals and partner organizations to share information and create space for campaign coordination.
  • Organize ACA events for community outreach and coalition development, both to bring in new members and support current members
  • Assist with ACA fundraising
  • Additional responsibilities to be identified, as the program evolves

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to addressing the climate crisis in Alaska through collaborative solutions rooted in the Just Transition Principles and Defend the Sacred Principles
  • Creative and excited to work collaboratively on dynamic teams consisting of both staff and volunteers
  • Able to keep track of numerous different projects with various timelines and needs
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and extremely well-organized
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to build trust and maintain relationships with diverse partners across the state
  • Understanding of and excitement to learn more in the fields of policy advocacy, coalition building, organizing, and decolonization
  • Experience engaging with and listening to members of racially, culturally, and economically diverse communities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills, with the ability to meet goals and deadlines while working independently
  • Committed to a personal process of learning and unlearning towards decolonization
  • Grant writing experience preferred but not required
